Justin Zhou is a junior at Hanover High School. He began studying cello at the age of seven. He is a student of Emmanuel Feldman at the New England Conservatory Prep School. Justin is currently a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. He was a member of the New England Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and was the principal cellist in the New England Music Festival Association (NEMFA) Orchestra. As a young musician, Justin has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including: First Place at the 2018 Windham Orchestra Concerto Competition and Second Place at the 2018 Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition. He has been the First Place winner of the Granite State Solo Competition four times as well as the First Place winner of the New Hampshire MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Senior String Competition. He was also a top winner in the New England Conservatory Concerto Competitions for three years. In addition, Justin was one of the winners of the 2016 Roman Totenberg Young Musician String Competition and the 2015 Eastern Division MTNA Junior String Competition. He also won the 2015 Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and performed as a soloist with the LRSO. Justin was the First Place Winner of the Massachusetts MTNA Junior Performance Competition. He has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall twice. Justin participated in an orchestra concert tour in Spain with the NEC Orchestra last Summer, and participated in the New England Music Festival and the New Hampshire All-State Music Festival twice.
